Out to eat when you’re watching what you eat…

So my darling husband decided to surprise me and take me out for dinner last night. We went to a local mexican restaurant…so I had a taco salad with chicken. Another good alternative is fajitas. Logged another 30 minutes on the WII this morning.

New Year’s resolution – lose weight!!

I’m tired of all my clothes fitting a little too tight. And I’m tired of not looking my best. It’s time to shed those extra 15 lbs of fat and replace them with muscle. Who’s with me?

How am I going to do it? Simple. I will start with 30 minutes of exercise 4 to 6 days a week and change my eating habits.

I pledge to use WII fit a minimum of 3 days a week to accomplish this and I will begin making all meals we eat at home from scratch.

Anybody want the recipes? Log on here each day and I will tell you what we had and how to make it.

Happy New Year and happy healthy eating.

New novel to check out:

Check out Stephen Bonniol’s new novel, Offspring: https://www.createspace.com/3392355. A fantastic read, very well written and a surprising twist at the end… Genre: religious, adult, romance, sci-fi, you name it, he rolled it in here.

7 April 2010: Best Gyro in the Phoenix Metro area!

George’s Gyros & Pasta in Mesa by far has the best gyros in town. Full of flavor, large servings and family owned. Fast, friendly service with a goal of customer satisfaction. It just doesn’t get any better. And with Az Bike Week coming – a great place to ride to for lunch or dinner. Visit their website for more information: www.georgesgyros.com

I am engaged and trying to plan the wedding. Problem is our family is all over the country. Just when I thought I had it all figured out and thought everything would work for everyone…I uncovered a flaw in my plan.

Back to the drawing board and trying to figure out a date that works for everyone. Maybe it’s time I made this wedding all about my fiance’ and me. Tell them all to heck with it, I’ve picked the date and either make it fit into your schedule or don’t come… Nah, that’s not my style. Maybe Aimee Sullivan would know what to do…hmmm

Great New Pizza Place in Peoria

Fantastic is the only word to describe this pizzeria/bar. The food is loaded with flavor, the wait staff is fun and full of energy and the restaurant has a relaxed, casual vibe. Located in Peoria at 15703 N 83rd Ave (just past the baseball fields and next to Polar Ice), this restaurant has location, atmosphere and great food. Check it out and tell them that Kelly Depp sent you.

Dog Eared Pages Used Books presents Books for Soldiers

100,000 Paperback Books going to the Middle East!

We started this New Program at our Used Bookstore in Phoenix, Arizona after talking with some of our customers that had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They were telling us that in their off-duty hours there wasn’t much to do other than read or play video games and unfortunately there were never enough books for everyone to read and pass around.

We trade for used books in our store and often times we will receive duplicate titles we don’t need on our shelves. We have been donating books since we opened our bookstore in August of 2008 to the VA Hospital with Vets on their way down for treatment and Senior Communities & many other charities around town and we will continue all of these worthy programs.

The Books for Soldiers Program is going to be a massive undertaking and we are asking for every Patriot in America to help.

We are donating all the books

Here’s what you can do:

Send an e-mail to all of your friends that we need the address of any person serving in the Middle East (http://tinyurl.com/Soldiers-Books ) and tell them to send the message on to their friends, we need this message to go viral, it will take 3,847 names @ 26 paperbacks per box to reach the 100,000 book goal.

If you use Facebook or Twitter please post the message there also, if we all work together we can really make a difference for our soldiers.

Send the names and addresses to info@Dogearedpagesusedbooks.com

Go to the Home Page and make a donation for postage, it costs only 50 cents to get a book into the hands of our brave young men and women serving in the Middle East.

Thank You in advance for your efforts

The Scottsdale Public Library is extending the Scottsdale initiative of ‘eat locally’ and ‘buy locally’ to ‘read locally’. In support of local authors, the library is putting together a selection of local author’s books that will be available soon.

6 January 2010: New Year’s Resolutions

Just about everyone I know makes at least one New Year’s Resolution. Unfortunately, by the end of the second week of the year, most of them have already broken it. A few make it a few months into the year and even fewer manage to make a change that lasts at least the entire year.

Why is it so hard for us to make a change? Typically, the change we are trying to make involves us giving up something we really enjoy or that we’ve been doing for a long time.

There are a few who try to commit to making several changes in one year. Unfortunately, these are usually the first to start failing and once you fail at one ‘resolution’…it becomes much easier to fail at them all. Also, it is very difficult for any of us to make a change.

We all resist change as much as possible and let’s face it, we like doing what’s comfortable. Doing something different takes effort, but if you are committed to your goal, recommit to your goal every morning and remind yourself why you wanted to make the change and before you know it, it will be December and you will have made a change (hopefully to better your life) that should last.
